Marlene and Maya’s story
|
My name is Marlene and my journey began after looking at a Morgan for sale. It wasn’t the right horse for me but intrigued by this horse’s manner I decided to do an internet search about the breed.
This is where I came upon Samaria Creek Morgans web site, and looked in the for sale section. As I scrolled down the page, there, for sale, was the most gorgeous creature I had ever seen. I looked at this web site for about two weeks before I summoned up the courage to ring. How could a beautiful horse like her be still for sale? To my delight she was still available and Judy was looking for the right home for her, so we set a time and my Dad and I travelled up to meet everyone.
As soon as we arrived at Samaria Creek Morgan Farm Judy took us on a tour. The whole place is just so peaceful and story book perfect. Dad and I met all the youngsters and Nimrod who is just a sight to behold.
At last I met Maya and I’m not sure who fell for whom first. Maya had decided I was her new mum and I had fallen head over heels in love. She was more beautiful than I’d imagined. Leaving that day was very hard. I thought of nothing else on the way home. Dad and I looked at each other… I said ‘I think I’ve found the one’. He agreed whole heartedly.
The next time I went back to visit Maya and Judy, I took my family to meet everyone and we all had a great time. My husband (not horsey at all) had a wonderful moment with Maya, when we were in the paddock with her. She walked past me, shoved her nose into my hubby’s neck, had a huge sniff of him, lowered her head to his chest and gave him a gentle nudge. She wants you to scratch her behind the ears I said, so he stood there rubbing her ears with Maya falling asleep. What a moment. I had tears in my eyes, and from that day he calls her ‘His Girl’.
Having made it official with Judy’s blessing, Maya is now my new best friend for life. And what a wonderful friend! With Judy’s guidance, wealth of knowledge and insight to a horses mind, our journey together has been just perfect so far. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to get back into riding and I have Judy to thank.
After not riding for more then ten years, my confidence was at an all time low. Judy’s approach to helping me is one I’ve not encountered before. Everything I knew about riding I had to forget and open myself up to new ways. Believe me when I say it was hard at first but it really works. Now instead of telling the horse what I want and having to work hard at it I’ve learnt how to ask for what I want and experience a true partnership. Its all thanks to Judy and Maya of course. Our journey continues together and I look forward learning all I can from Judy.
I’m very privileged to call Judy a friend and Maya my new best friend.
